Is it possible to compress from a file buffer rather than an address?

Instead of sending the 'add a file' API a url or file location, can I send it a buffer that contains the file? We are creating a PDF from a URL and I don't want the overhead of saving the PDF to disk before having it compressed. Is this possible?
